A BREWERY WITH A VISION

We are Haacht Brewery, an independent Belgian brewery with 127 years of craftsmanship as its solid foundation. That experience gives us a unique position: not the biggest of the big, but the largest among the small, independent breweries. It’s a position we’re proud of, and one that we continue to build upon every day, together with our partners in the hospitality, retail, and export sectors.

We are charting an ambitious course and making targeted investments in our international brands, accelerating our innovation, and fully committing to growth in our core market, Belgium, the Netherlands, and France, as well as our export markets, the United Kingdom, Spain, and Italy. Our innovation efforts are focused primarily  on non-alcoholic beer. This has already earned our 0.0 beers international WAFA gold medals.

DISCOVER OUR LONG AND RICH HISTORY

  • 1893–1898 HOW IT ALL BEGAN…

    Even before Haacht Brewery existed, the “Melkerij van Haecht,” a small dairy, was located on the current site. Eugène De Ro began working at the dairy in 1897. De Ro, an engineer specializing in brewing, is the founder of what is now Haacht Brewery.

  • 1898–1913 A STRONG START

    On June 14, 1898, Eugène De Ro brewed his first top-fermented beer. Four years later, he also ventured into brewing bottom-fermented beer. This proved so successful that by 1913, the “Brouwerij en Melkerij van Haecht” had risen to the very top of the Belgian brewing world.

  • 1914–1949 THE BEER TRAM

    In the 1920s, beer barrels were still transported by rail. The “beer tram” literally ran across the brewery’s grounds and transported the barrels to Schaarbeek. There, they were transferred to carts to supply beer to Brussels’ beer retailers and cafés.

  • 1950–1968 THE BOTTLING PLANT

    The first bottling plant was established in 1950. A year later, Alfred van der Kelen, Eugène De Ro’s son-in-law, took over management of the brewery. In the years that followed, numerous small acquisitions took place, and Haacht Brewery’s beers were distributed throughout the country.

  • 1968–1990s REAL ESTATE AND MARKETS

    In 1968, Alfred van der Kelen passed away quite unexpectedly. His son Fréderic took the helm and significantly expanded the real estate portfolio. Thanks to acquisitions of breweries in the southern Netherlands and northern France, Haacht Brewery also gained a foothold in neighboring countries.

  • 1990 – TODAY: COMPLETE MODERNIZATION

    In 1990, Haacht Brewery began a complete overhaul of its production facilities.

    Today, Haacht Brewery is a state-of-the-art brewery, inspired by the past but more ready than ever for the future.
