Primus

History

Jan Primus, Duke of Brabant, was one of the most powerful lords in medieval Brabant.  He developed a strong appreciation of beer and granted brewers special privileges.  He also reformed the currency system and breathed new life into trade.
On tbe 5th of June 1288, he won the battle of Woeringen against the Archbishop of Cologne and the counts of Luxembourg and Gerle.  This enabled him to unite Limburg and Brabant and keep the trade routes safe.  Brabant grew to be a prosperous state within the Holy Roman Empire.
In 1975, the Haacht Brewery gave its pils-style beer a new name and 'Super 8' became 'Primus'.  Today, Primus is a premium lager in the Belgian beer market.

Description of the flavour

Primus is a bottom-fermented beer with a bright, light blond colour and fine-bubbled foam.  Malt from Belgium, the Netherlands or France, water from our own wells and hops of varying types all combine to create a refined flavour and well-balanced flavour that starts off slightly sweet with restrained bitterness, developing into a dry and thirst-quenching drink.
